‘Crimes of the Future’ is the filmmaker’s next film
- French actress Léa Seydoux will be in the film too
- It will be the fourth time that Cronenberg and Mortensen work together
Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen will star in David Cronenberg’s ‘Crimes of the Future’ , the story of a popular performance artist whose job it is to grow new organs in his body.
The sci-fi thriller sounds extremely “Cronenbergian.” According to Deadline, who broke the news, the film is set in the distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser adopts Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, creating new and unexpected organs in his body. The removal of these organs becomes a show for his loyal fans. A plot therefore very much in the line of the filmmaker who has works such as ‘Inseparables’ or ‘Videodrome’. Cronenberg’s filmography is certainly not for the faint of heart. In addition to Mortensen and Stewart, the cast includes Léa Seydoux and Scott Speedman .
‘Crimes of the Future’ will also mark Cronenberg and Mortensen’s reunion roughly a decade after the pair joined forces for ‘A Dangerous Method’. The two previously worked together on ‘A History of Violence’ in 2005 and ‘Eastern Promises’ two years later. The director meets with production designer Carol Spier, with whom he worked on ‘Crash’ and ‘Inseparables,’ as well as ‘A Story of Violence’ composer Howard Shore.
