Avengers: Doomsday Release Date, Cast and Everything Confirmed

Avengers: Doomsday opens in US theaters on Friday, December 18, 2026, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. The UK gets it two days earlier on December 16, and Australia a day earlier on December 17. This page was last updated on November 8, 2026, and it is the one place on Xplorely where we keep the confirmed facts, the reported ones and the rumours apart.

Avengers: Doomsday release dates by country

Marvel has moved this film more than once. In March 2025 it was still listed for May 1, 2026, TheWrap noted at the time of the cast reveal, and it was later pushed to December 18, 2026. These are the dates for our four main markets, each tied to a named source.

CountryRelease dateSource and status
United StatesFriday, December 18, 2026Disney’s film page and Good Morning America. Official.
United KingdomWednesday, December 16, 2026Disney confirmed the date to Digital Spy, as reported by NME and MovieWeb. Disney UK’s own film page still showed December 18 when we checked, so book through your cinema’s listing.
CanadaFriday, December 18, 2026Cineplex’s advance-ticket announcement on X says “See it in theatres on December 18.” We found no separate early Canadian date.
Australia (and New Zealand)Thursday, December 17, 2026Disney Australia lists December 17 for Australian and New Zealand cinemas. Official. The classification was not yet shown on that page.

Other markets open early too. MovieWeb reports India on December 17, with screenings in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, a date it says Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans confirmed in a video on X. The 9to5Marvel tracker lists Italy, South Korea and China on December 16 and Spain on December 17. Dates elsewhere can differ, so check a local cinema.

Avengers: Doomsday cast: what is confirmed

Marvel Studios revealed most of the cast on March 26, 2025, in a long livestream of director’s chairs with actors’ names on them, which TheWrap covered. Downey appeared in person and took the last seat. The list below uses three status labels. Confirmed means the name appears on Disney’s official film page or in Marvel’s own announcement. Reported means a named trade or news outlet says so, and Marvel has not confirmed it. Not confirmed means the studio has said nothing and we are not treating it as fact.

This is not necessarily the full cast. Anthony Russo said after the re-release that “we have absolutely not announced the entire cast. There is more to come,” per WDW News Today. We only add a name once Marvel, Disney or a named trade outlet backs it. We have left out personal news about individual cast members that we could not confirm with Marvel or a major trade outlet.

The Avengers: Doomsday global tour

Marvel named nine tour cities in early November: Las Vegas, São Paulo, Gold Coast, Rome, London, Seoul, Shanghai, Toronto and Los Angeles. No dates or guest lists have been announced yet. We cover the cities, the sources and what is still unknown in a separate guide: Avengers: Doomsday Global Tour, nine cities and what is still unknown. It goes live on November 11.

Trailer, special looks and runtime

The first full official trailer arrived on July 20, 2026, around San Diego Comic-Con, according to 9to5Marvel and Good Morning America. A special look was shown at D23 on August 14. The Avengers: Endgame re-release on September 25 carried an exclusive look at Doomsday, with an extra sneak peek for IMAX and Infinity Vision viewers. 9to5Marvel also lists a 30-second TV spot from Marvel Entertainment on October 25 and a Marvel India special look on October 28. Marvel has not given a date for a second full trailer. Fan-account claims of a mid-November release are unconfirmed.

Ticket sales began on July 20 for Infinity Vision-certified theaters and opened more widely later, per Good Morning America. In Canada, Cineplex announced advance tickets at select locations.

Runtime is not certified. Here is what exists, sorted by reliability:

  • Director’s estimate: Anthony Russo told Fandango it is “a two-and-a-half-hour movie, or so,” as reported by 9to5Marvel. That is a ballpark, not a locked length.
  • Reported: The Hollywood Reporter reported 165 minutes (2 hours 45 minutes) in July, which ScreenRant repeated, with the note that Marvel had not formally commented. Some ticketing sites show the same figure.
  • Rumour: An anonymous online scooper claims the current cut runs past three hours. 9to5Marvel describes this as unverified. We do not rely on it.

The official runtime normally appears when cinemas load final listings and the film is rated, a few weeks before release. We will update this page then.

The Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

Anthony and Joe Russo direct, and Stephen McFeely is credited as writer on Disney UK’s film page. Producers listed there are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz.

Downey plays Victor von Doom, the villain. According to 9to5Marvel, Marvel confirmed his casting at Comic-Con 2024, and he appeared in person at the March 2025 chairs livestream. Whether this Doom is connected to Tony Stark, whom Downey played for a decade, is unresolved: the same tracker says the Russos have called it “a pregnant question.” The official synopsis, quoted by Good Morning America, says “beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course.” Those are the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four’s world and the X-Men’s.

The re-release of Avengers: Endgame with Doomsday footage has also fed speculation. Joe Russo said the TVA footage showing the multiverse collapsing is “one of the more significant events that’s ever happened in the MCU,” per WDW News Today.

What comes next: Avengers: Secret Wars

Marvel’s follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, is dated December 17, 2027 in the US, according to Good Morning America, which calls Doomsday the 39th MCU film and the setup for it. In March 2025 the sequel was still dated May 7, 2027, per TheWrap, so dates have moved before. Good Morning America notes that Spider-Man: Brand New Day hints Spider-Man may turn up in Secret Wars rather than here, which is that outlet’s reading, not a Marvel statement.
