1990s
Home Alone (1990). Directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes, with Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. An eight-year-old left behind when his family flies to Paris defends the house from two burglars.
Sister Act (1992). Directed by Emile Ardolino, with Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith and Harvey Keitel. A nightclub singer who witnesses a crime hides in a struggling convent and takes over its choir.

Night at the Museum (2006). Directed by Shawn Levy, with Ben Stiller, Dick Van Dyke and Robin Williams. A night guard finds that the exhibits at New York’s American Museum of Natural History come to life after dark.
2010s and later
Jojo Rabbit (2019). Written and directed by Taika Waititi, who also appears in it, with Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie and Scarlett Johansson. A boy in the Hitler Youth discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish teenager. It won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. It is a darker, more serious film than the others here.
Free Guy (2021). Directed by Shawn Levy, with Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer. A bank teller learns he is a non-player character in an online game.
Deadpool and Wolverine (2024). Directed by Shawn Levy, with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Deadpool teams up with a reluctant Wolverine to stop the Time Variance Authority from destroying his universe. It is intended for adult audiences, unlike most of the list.
Choosing
For a family watch, Home Alone, The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Night at the Museum fit best. For a teen or adult evening, Free Guy, Sister Act and Deadpool and Wolverine are the broader comedies. Check the age rating in your country before choosing for children.
